胡居仁与陈献章是明初二位著名儒者,二人均曾师事吴与弼,后来也都奉祀孔庙。整个明代仅有四人获奉祀孔庙殊荣,由此可见二人的重要地位。胡居仁被视为笃守程朱矩矮的明初醇儒,陈献章则开启了明代心学,前者曾强烈批评后者之学为禅。本书试图将胡居仁与陈献章的学术放入从朱子理学到阳明心学 的发展脉络。第一部分旨在说明朱子学从南宋到明初的变化,已显现出愈来愈重视实践笃行与强**体的趋向,这正是胡、陈二人思想产生的大时代背景。第二部分则详细讨论并比较二人思想的异同。第三部分则进一步将二人思想特质与朱熹、王阳明思想交互比较,明确二人在学术发展史上的定位。两者的交涉与异同,可谓明初儒学史的重要篇章。
